This is not a protest, it is a "we like the path as its, thank you!" event. Please get in touch if you'd like to help organise this, or can offer suitable activities on the day e.g. face-painting (contact enquiries@railwaypath.org )
There's a Bike ride starting at 12:00 precisely from Queen Square.
The full ride details give the precise timings; the plan is to ride to Mangotsfield and back, getting off the bikes and walking in the procession when we pass Fishponds on the return journey.
The foot procession starts at Fishponds at 2.30pm BST on the dot.
We plan to have an ever-growing walking-pace procession down the path with a bit of a carnival atmosphere. We will have cyclists and walkers etc joined by school children, parents and teachers, wildlife enthusiasts, trade unions, green groups etc etc and hopefully will get some unicylists, street theatre, the samba band etc. We will encourage fancy dress. Please bring banners, but please not 'party political'. J
Join at Devon Rd at 2.45, or the park at St Phillips Road at the City end of path at 3pm- ish.
At the park at the end of the path we will regroup, the Playbus will hopefully be there and maybe some refreshments. We then march from the path to College Green between 3pm & 4.30pm.
The route planned is Trinity Rd, Old Market, through Castle Park exiting by Bristol Bridge, Baldwin St, passing the Hippodrome, College Green.
Help required: during the procession we will be collecting money in buckets and we will have leaflets to give out. We will need stewards. This the first of what we hope will be an annual celebration of the path.
Leaflets: We have leaflets for people to print and use to publicise the event.
April 1st – Full council debate The March 30th Celebration is important as, 2 days later - the Council will be voting on a motion by Bristol's sole green councillor, Charlie Bolton. A motion which, if the council votes for it, will have them tell the West of England Partnership to leave the Railway Path out of their plans. Even if we don't win this motion, it will force the councillors to show us which side they are on. Then we can work on them one by one. Chris Hutt submitted a statement to the Bristol City Council Cabinet Meeting on 21st February. He called on the Cabinet to ensure Charlie Bolton's motion would be debated in full (ie no shenanigans to prevent it being heard). Helen Holland, Leader of the Council, guaranteed that it would be debated in full which is excellent news.
Join us at the Council House at 6pm, Tuesday April 1st for a peaceful picket outside then watch the proceedings inside (will last till 9pm)
